Bandhani, also known as Bandhej; is an oldest form of Tie and Dye textile. Practiced mainly in the states of Rajasthan, Gujarat and some parts of Uttar Pradesh.

The art of Bandhani involves dyeing the fabric which is tightly tied with a thread at several places to produce different patterns.

Earliest references to this technique are found in Indus Valley Civilization records, dating back to 4000 B.C. Even the 6th Century, Buddhist paintings, in the famous Ajanata Caves have Bandhani references.

This ancient art form is still in practice…….
